Leeds–Keio™ System 90

The System 90 is the original Leeds-Keio™ knee ligament, being designed and manufactured with mechanical properties that mimic those of the natural human cruciate ligaments. These original design principles remain unchanged, providing 25 years of implant history. No other ligament has such a track record of success.

A full complement of instruments is available for accurate placement of tunnels and to harvest cylindrical bone blocks for implantation within the ligament itself.

Indications

There are three versions of the System 90:

S90 IA: the System 90 intra-articular used for ACL reconstruction.
S90 IA + EA: the System 90 intra-articular + extra-articular used for ACL reconstruction with lateral extra-articular reinforcement.
S90 HPA: the System 90 High Performance Athlete ligament provides a stronger prosthesis to deal with the higher forces placed on it by the athletic or larger patient and is used for ACL or PCL reconstruction.

Features and benefits

Parallel longitudinal fibres of polyethylene terephthalate provide high strength. This allows for early rehabilitation, when typically elongation or rupture may otherwise occur if a tissue graft is used, as the mechanical properties of the graft are temporarily reduced during the initial remodelling period. The S90 IA and S90 IA + EA have strengths of 2200N, the S90 HPA has a strength of 3300N.
Stiffness is matched to the natural human cruciate ligaments, restoring the biomechanics to the repair.
No requirement to harvest a soft tissue graft to reconstruct the ligament or tendon, reduces morbidity.
The open mesh structure acts as a scaffold. This encourages ingrowth of tissue on the intra-articular portion, protecting the ligament from abrasion and failure while adding strength. The prosthesis initially carries all the tensile force until the ingrown tissue invading the prosthesis matures into a “neo-ligament” and becomes load sharing.
Two titanium Fastlok™ fixation devices prevent slippage of the ligament during the early stages of the patient's rehabilitation, preventing loosening and the consequent return of pre-operative laxity.
Bone plugs placed within the prosthesis allow bone regrowth, providing a powerful biological anchor.
